What it is

A crown is a cap that covers a damaged or root-canal-treated tooth. HIRA reports crown prices by material: zirconia, PFM (porcelain fused to metal), all-ceramic, gold, PFG (porcelain fused to gold) and metal.

What the price includes

Prices are per tooth for the crown itself. Root canal treatment, a post and core build-up, or temporary crowns are separate items.

Health insurance

Crowns made of these materials are non-covered for adults, so the price is generally the same whether or not you have Korean health insurance.

Questions

Why is gold so expensive?

Gold crown prices follow the price of the metal, which has risen sharply. Many Korean dentists now recommend zirconia, which is tooth-coloured and usually cheaper than gold.
